Governing Council Code of Practice

 

The Governing Councillor will:

  • Act honestly, in good faith and in the best interests of the school as a whole.

  • Use due care and diligence in fulfilling the function of office and exercising the powers attached to that office.

  • Use the powers of office for a proper purpose, in the best interests of the school as a whole.

  • Recognise that the primary responsibility is to the school community as a whole.

  • Make proper use of information acquired as a governing councillor and maintain confidentiality.

  • Not take improper advantage of the position of governing councillor and should not engage in conduct likely to discredit.

  • Not allow personal interests, or the interests of any associated person, to conflict with the interests of the school.

  • Be independent in judgement and actions and take all reasonable steps to be satisfied about the soundness of all decisions taken by the governing council.

Principal Code of Practice

 

The principal is responsible for the leadership, management and development of the school and its programs. The Principal operates within the relevant Act, regulations, departmental policies and the role and responsibility statement for principals.

 

In providing effective leadership, the principal will:

  • Lead and manage the implementation of the Site Improvement Plan.

  • Provide leadership and accurate advice to the governing council and ensure that the policies and programs developed in partnership with the community are implemented.

  • Assist all staff to adhere consistently to departmental and school policies.

  • Support the development and maintenance of a purposeful learning environment that recognises and rewards student achievement.

  • Facilitate the use of quality learning and teaching strategies to maximise student learning outcomes.

  • Ensure a safe, effective and harassment free environment for students and staff.     

  • Ensure principles of equity and merit are applied.

  • Manage the development and operation of the site's financial and administrative systems.

  • Promote the school and further enhance links with all sectors of the educational community.

Staff Code of Practice

 

In addition to specific role and responsibility statements, staff will abide by a code of practice which ensures that:

  • All members of the school community are treated with respect.

  • The individual learning needs of students are paramount.

  • All members of staff contribute to the implementation of the school's Partnerships plan.

  • Teaching programs are consistent with the Curriculum Standards and Accountability Framework.

  • A positive contribution is made, in collaboration with others, to whole school activities and development.

  • All school and departmental policies are enacted.

  • Skills and knowledge are continually expanded through self reflection,  constructive feedback and participation in team learning and training and development.

  • A positive contribution is made to developing and sustaining a productive teaching and learning environment.

Students will:

  • Treat all members of the school community with respect.

  • Demonstrate pride in the school.

  • Strive to do their best at all times.

  • Behave in accordance with the Behaviour Management Policy.

  • Use grievance procedures to address issues of concern.

  • Be active participants in the decision making process under the school's decision making guidelines.
